An 'X' prefix to the serial number indicates a gun that has been re-serial numbered by. A geometric-shape proofmark, like a triangle, arrowhead or such, on the front left of triggerguard indicates an M1911A1 made by Ithaca. Mine was an AA marked 1918 Colt 1911 lower and a Springfield (some say Savage) slide. An RCD inspector mark or double spacing between the M and 1911A1 indicates manufacture by Union Switch and Signal. Makes and marks have from been all over the place & history up to the mid-80's. They aren't Anniston Depot refurbs, they are from Anniston storage. My understanding was that most of the the older M1911s were surplused off and sold through the NRA/DCM after refurb. Description: This is a WW2 Remington Rand arsenal refinished slide. Since they were re-issued (the M1911A1s) so in my mind that makes the AA marked A1 examples a bit more "desirable" than the current 1980s Annison refurbed M1911A1s. The latest date a Augusta Arsenal marked refurb could have been done is 1955 when they closed.

It's still hard for me to believe what folks paid for the current Annision Depot refurbs sold through the CMP but they are part of the M1911 series military history and no more will be refurbed/re-issued by the military. U.S.A.' The number '4' appears on the front of the trigger guard the letter 'P' appears. On the left hand side is: 'REMINGTON RAND INC.' and below this is 'SYRACUSE, N.Y. 1805961.' What appears to be a 'T' is stamped on the front of the trigger guard. ARMY' marking on the right side of the slide is normally found in the range from 906000 to 916404. On the right hand side of the frame is: 'UNITED STATES PROPERTY M 1911 A1 U.S. This was among the last group of pistols produced by Remington Rand in 1944 (Pg. 500000 to end of production Ithaca slide markings The 'Model of 1911 A1 U.S. Model: 1911-A1 Serial Number: 2025572 Year of Manufacture: Late 1944. We know this is a GI slide by the 'P' on the top.

Kind of like what has happened to the prices of all mil-surps we used to get dirt cheap. Make: Remington Rand Frame, GI/Commercial Arsenal Replacement Colt Slide & Commercial Barrel. Given what they could be had for over current collector's lifetimes I can sorta understand as they are pretty much just a collection of parts.
